Billings, MT

KQBL - 105.1 Bill FM
(Station changed formats on December 1, 2008)

New Northwest Broadcasters' 105.1 The End (KNDZ) in Billings, MT flipped from Active Rock to Variety Hits as 105.1 Bill FM on August 23, 2005.

The station signed on in 1998 as KBEX "Classic Hits 105FM". That format lasted through the station's sale to New Northwest (it had been controlled under an LMA by Marathon Media, but Marathon had to spin it off), but it flipped to AAA as 105.1 The Blitz on Labor Day Weekend 2002.

The station picked up a new name, 105.1 The End, and new call letters KNDZ in February 2003, while retaining the AAA format. In April 2004, it switched from AAA to Active Rock, but kept the same call letters and name. I know the timing may seem strange (with the format flip and name/call letter change being non-concurrent), but all of the information I have verifies that being accurate.

16 months later, the station flipped again, picking up the current format as 105.1 Bill FM. The station acquired new call letters on August 26, 2005, becoming KQBL.

On October 2, 2008, news came out that the station will be flipping to Sports with ESPN Radio and the Dan Patrick show. That flip took place on December 1, 2008, with the station going sports under the moniker "105.1 KQBL".
