Charleston, West Virginia
WKAZ - 107.3 Jack FM
(Station changed formats on March 19, 2007)
Variety Hits came to Charleston, WV on January 17, 2006 as part of a double-switch by West Virginia Media Corp. The oldies format that had been on 107.3 WKAZ migrated to sister station 680 WCAW, with 680's Southern Gospel format receiving the heave-ho. That made room for JACK-FM on 107.3, with WKAZ becoming 107.3 Jack FM.
Unfortunately for the new Jack FM, the station wasn't able to replicate the ratings that it had under its previous Oldies format. On March 16, 2007 at 5 p.m., the station began stunting toward a new format, with one-hour blocks of new format possibilities running, and liners encouraging listeners to vote on what format they want on the station website.
The station relaunched with Oldies (dubbed "Classic Top 40" on-air) as 107.3 KAZ at 10 a.m. EDT on March 19, 2007.
