KSQB-FM - Q 95.7
Backyard Broadcasting's Q 95.7, has an unusual story. It was an Oldies station as "Q Gold 95.7" until April 1, 2004, when it dropped the Gold from the name (according to 100000watts.com) and began moving toward AC. Backyard acquired the station from Midcontinent Media in September 2004.
With the wave of Variety Hits stations sweeping the country in mid-2005, the station began gradually shifting from AC toward Variety Hits in the summer of 2005, finally reaching Variety Hits status in roughly September 2006.
As station PD Big Scott Allen told me via e-mail, "It was a migration from a Westwood One oldies format to the present version of the station. It took a while, but it is what it is now." The move, I'm told, was done to stave off any competitors from flipping to Jack (or Bob or SAM.)
