Clear Channel flipped AC Lite 96.7 (WLTY) to Variety Hits at 3 PM on August 16, 2005 as 96.7 Steve FM. Lite 96.7 had been in the Columbua market since Labor Day Weekend 1998. The speculation in the market is that the "Steve FM" name was chosen in honor of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier.
