KPKX - 98.7 The Peak
Emmis-owned Adult Contemporary 98.7 K-Lite KKLT flipped formats to Variety Hits as 98.7 The Peak on May 28, 2004, making it one of the first stations in the United States to adopt the format. Joel Gray, who had served as PD for K-Lite, oversaw the changeover and remained on as the PD for The Peak. The first song The Peak played to start the new format was Change Will Do You Good by Sheryl Crow.
Bonneville International obtained 98.7 The Peak from Emmis Communications in January 2005 as part of a multi-market station swap between the two companies, though it took control of the station via an LMA in December 2004. On May 9, 2005, Bonneville changed the station's call letters to KPKX.
