Wheeling, West Virginia
WYJK-FM - 100.5 Jack FM
Keymarket Communications quietly claimed the WYJK call letters on October 5, 2005, stashing them on an AM station that it owned in Pennsylvania. At the time, the move didn't seem particularly notable, as the station which acquired the new call letters is an AM simulcast for an FM Oldies station in Uniontown, PA.
The reason for the decision would soon become more obvious, as at midnight on October 25, 2005, Keymarket made a major move in the Wheeling, WV market. It flipped longtime CHR WOMP-FM to the satellite-fed JACK-FM Variety Hits format, changing the station's call letters to WYJK-FM.
The station actually has some distant coverage into the western fringes of the Pittsburgh market, though with Pittsburgh's Bob FM signing on in November 2005, that all but eliminated the chance for Jack to steal a quarter-share or two from the market.
