Memphis entered the Variety Hits game on Friday, September 15, 2006, as Citadel's WMPW (Power 99) abandoned hip hop and debuted a female-leaning Variety Hits station as 98.9 Kim FM. The station formerly aired the Star & Buc Wild morning show prior to Clear Channel dropping the ax on it in May. This is a borderline choice to include in the list, but I figure if Jill FM in Los Angeles can make it, so can Kim FM. In some ways, choosing a female-lean was a curious move given that the market has 300kw WMC-FM (Hot AC), Adult Contemporary in WRVR and Modern AC with WMBZ, but since Entercom will soon own all three of those stations, perhaps the move is an attempt by Citadel to pressure Entercom into the likely move of flipping one of those stations to another format?

FMQB reports that Hot AC KRSK/Portland, OR afternoon team Dr. Doug and Skippy are moving to sister station 97.1 Charlie FM (KYCH-FM) to host the station's new morning show "sometime" in 2007.

Regent Communications has agreed to purchase the CBS Radio cluster in Buffalo for $125 million. The deal includes Variety Hits 92.9 Jack FM (WBUF), 3 other FM stations, and one AM station. The Regent takeover is slated to happen with an LMA in October.
